Stimulating physical, social and leisure activities in the elderly and patients with Alzheimer’s disease can help preserve cognitive functions and delay clinical manifestations of dementia, such as memory loss. This is what recent studies indicate. This is because these stimuli can contribute to the construction of structural and functional reserves of the brain, protecting the organ from injuries that cause cognitive impairments.

A new study, done at the University of São Paulo (USP) and the Santa Casa de Sao Paulo School of Medical Sciences of, with the support of FAPESP, confirmed the hypothesis.
